I’ve been getting e-mail requests with people wanting to know what to buy their significant others for Valentine’s Day. It’s really hard to tell what someone else who I’ve never met will like, but here are some suggestions anyway! Just some modern variations of old standbys.
*Flowers are nice, but how about in a pot instead of a vase? They last a lot longer…
*It’s hard to go wrong with a good dinner. And if you’re lucky enough to live in Arizona, Kansas, Colorado or Texas these are the best restaurants ever. I got to go to Montana Avenue once, and had the world’s most tender braised short rib. It came with wild mushrooms, baby onion and whipped potato. Afterwards, I had a chocolate banana explosion, also known as a chocolate flourless torte with Irish cream anglaise and roasted banana gelato. To die for! Make reservations now if you want to go.
*If you want to make some homemade chocolate, this is delicious!
*And here’s a present that really does good. Help support small-scale cocoa farmers in rural communities protect their land from environmental threats and encroachment by mining companies. Or, help HIV-affected women and households support their family. These are symbolic gift items, and your donation helps people living in poverty. Your Valentine will get a personalized card, and will probably be impressed by your thoughtfulness. Although the cards can take 7-10 business days to reach the recipient, you can send an eCard. It’s not as customizable as the printed gift card your recipient will later receive, but they will know the printed card is en route. Check the Oxfam site out for details.
*Not into Valentine’s Day? Send my friend Caila a story of Love gone Awry! (or amazingly well) (For Friday the 13th prior to Valentine’s) From her site:
Dumped by your fiancee in the middle of the Old Country Buffet via payphone? Dream about a particular stranger for years, then finally meet the exact person..? I’m a Performance Artist, and I intend to read anonymous stories into a microphone in public on Friday the 13th prior to Valentine’s Day. Preventing alienation from Store-bought holidays one moment at a time. I need your stories, your truth! Email me? comm-1006465753@craigslist.org
*And here’s something for everybody! Check out my most recent published work.
I was amongst many Southern Arizonans who expressed themselves regarding Obama’s inauguration for the Tucson Weekly. If you’d like to read my outrage about Rick Warren being chosen to give a prayer during this historic event, search for my name and you shall find it.
I got to visit Team Bison and roll with MMA superstar Kelly Kobold and wrote about it here.
And although my interview with the Baby Faced Assassin Josh Barnett has been quoted all over the place, I doubt you’ve read the real thing.
Last but certainly not least, I interviewed Neil Rampe, the Major League Manual Therapist for the Diamondbacks, for the Performance Menu Journal. Neil has some great information on injury and imbalance management. Do yourself a favor and spend $5 on the issue. It also has some great recipes and training articles.
Have a great February, and I’ll catch you next month!
